ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers say a corrections officer sustained minor injuries during an attempted escape by two inmates at the Anchorage jail.

Troopers were notified Sunday night that the officer was assaulted in the booking area. Corrections Department spokeswoman Sherrie Daigle says the inmates are men and the officer is a woman.

Troopers say the inmates asked the officer to get them toilet paper and then rushed their cell door.

Troopers say the inmates struck and placed the officer in a choke hold before other officers intervened.

According to troopers, one of the inmates tried to hide in a shower room after failing to open an exit door.

The inmates were restrained. Assault and attempted escape charges have been forwarded to prosecutors.

The officer was sent to a hospital and released.
