GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) - Two people have died in a wreck on Interstate 85 in Cherokee County.

Authorities said the wreck happened when a vehicle crossed the median and cable barriers, crashing into a van.

Coroner Dennis Fowler state in a statement that those killed were 34-year-old Brandon Lynn Yount of Inman and his aunt, 51-year-old Krista Ann Cook, 51, of Albemarle, North Carolina.

Fowler said the victims were trapped in their car and died at the scene. They were not wearing seat belts.

The coroner says Yount’s car crossed the media and collided with a van in the southbound lane.

The driver of the van was flown to Spartanburg Regional hospital for treatment. The drivers of two other vehicles that were also involved in the wreck were not hurt.

Autopsies are scheduled Wednesday.
