MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a construction worker has been hospitalized after being trapped in a construction trench.

Montgomery Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Martha Earnhardt tells Al.com (https://bit.ly/1Chc1EK ) the man was working in a trench at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Wednesday when dirt shifted and briefly trapped him. She says the dirt piled up to the man’s knees.

Earnhardt says the worker had been freed by co-workers before emergency responders arrived and was hospitalized as a precaution. Earnhardt says the man didn’t appear to be injured.
