BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Beaumont police have helped rescue a blind man who wandered alone for hours after becoming confused when he got off a city bus.

Officer Carol Riley says heavy fog early Wednesday hampered the ground search in Beaumont, a city of about 118,000.

A person walking a dog came across the lost man, who was then escorted home by officers.

The man called 911 shortly before 5 a.m. CST Wednesday to say he was lost somewhere in Beaumont. He said he was blind, disoriented, missed his bus transfer Tuesday night and was trying to walk home.

Dispatchers determined his general location as he stayed on the line. Officers even sounded a patrol car siren and asked him to listen, then the person with a dog encountered the lost man.
