CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Doctors who perform abortions in Wyoming would be required before performing the procedure to advise women that they could view an ultrasound image of their fetus and listen to its heartbeat.

The bill introduced Tuesday in the House is sponsored by eight house members and four senators. It specifies that the requirement would not apply to abortions performed in order to save the life of the mother or to remove a dead fetus.

The bill would require doctors to get signed statements from women acknowledging that they had been told of their right to view an ultrasound image and listen to the heartbeat.

Similar bills have failed in past sessions of the Wyoming Legislature.
