ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo has promised special efforts to alleviate Rochester’s high poverty rate with a state inter-agency task force working with the city’s public, private and nonprofit leaders to examine the root causes.

Cuomo says their second task is to find meaningful solutions.

A recent report from the Rochester Area Community Foundation and ACT Rochester says the city ranks among the highest nationally in childhood poverty and extreme poverty.

According to the governor’s office, Census data show New York’s poverty rate at almost 16 percent.

Cuomo is delivering his state of the state address and budget proposals on Wednesday.
