KILGORE, Texas (AP) - An East Texas man’s death has been ruled a homicide after his body was found in his burned house.

Rusk County sheriff’s Sgt. David Roberts said Tuesday that evidence suggests 56-year-old John Cecil Clements Jr. of Kilgore was slain. The victim’s house was destroyed by an explosion and fire last week.

No cause of death was immediately released. Nobody has been arrested. Authorities declined to release a possible motive for the slaying.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate Clements was likely killed last Thursday night. Emergency responders early Friday responded to reports of a house on fire. The victim’s body was found in the debris.

Roberts didn’t immediately release further details on the investigation.
