YORK, S.C. (AP) - A York County deputy investigating a car blocking a road ended up busting a dogfight instead.

Investigators said in a news release that the officer was checking on a report of a car on cinder blocks in the middle of a street in York around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday when he heard unusual noises coming from behind a house.

The deputy says he peeked around the backyard, saw two dogs being forced to fight and called for backup.

More deputies came and broke up the fight. Authorities say they have detained three people and plan to charge them once they confirm their identities. A fourth person ran away.

Deputies also seized five pit bulls, and a veterinarian determined at least three of them had been used in dogfights.
