ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Snowplows are working to clear northern New Mexico highways of a snow and ice from a major winter storm.

The National Weather Service says about an inch of snow had already fallen in Santa Fe by Wednesday afternoon.

Strong winds are expected to develop Wednesday night in the middle Rio Grande Valley the upper Tularosa Valley.

The forecast calls for snowfall to increasing hit southern New Mexico on Thursday, and winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories will continue through Thursday.

Clovis police warn motorists to expect white-out conditions and up to 14 inches of snow.

Officials at two Clovis courthouses - the Curry County Magistrate Court and 9th Judicial District Court of New Mexico - announced Wednesday night that the facilities will be closed Thursday due to inclement weather.
