ONIDA, S.D. (AP) - An elementary school teacher in Onida is releasing her first children’s book.

Author Joan Hofer has penned “Sherbert,” the tale of a young kitten desperate to grow up who makes some unlikely friends. The book is being distributed by Tate Publishing and Enterprising, a Christian-based publisher headquartered in Oklahoma.

Hofer served as an elementary school teacher in Onida for 10 years before retiring to raise her three children. She now works as a substitute teacher in the local district.

“Sherbert” is available through bookstores nationwide.
