IRWINDALE, Calif. (AP) - A former Southern California police officer charged with molesting a 14-year-old girl in his department’s Explorer Program has been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office says 28-year-old Daniel Camerano was immediately remanded into custody to begin his sentence on Tuesday.

Authorities say the ex-Irwindale officer began a relationship with the girl while he was an adviser to the program.

He pleaded no contest in December to three felony counts, including using a minor for sex acts.

He resigned from the force last June.
