PHOENIX (AP) - A homeless man has been arrested after Phoenix police say they found him asleep in a car with heroin in his pockets.

Police say a small child also was sleeping in the vehicle’s backseat area Monday along with 32-year-old Hector Munoz, who’s being held on suspicion of child abuse and possession of narcotic drugs.

Officers were called to the apartment complex and paramedics took the child to a Phoenix hospital for further evaluation.

Police say Munoz had outstanding warrants for his arrest. When they searched him, they reported finding a black substance wrapped in plastic that appeared to be heroin.

Police say Munoz told officers he was supposed to drop the child off with a relative but the relative was not at home and he fell asleep in the car.
