MAGNA, Utah (AP) - A 12-year-old Utah boy is reported in critical condition after falling through the ice at a community pool in Magna.

Unified Police say the boy had been under the water for 15 to 20 minutes before officers responded to the Magna Recreation Center about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Lt. Justin Hoyal says the boy had been playing with some friends at a nearby park when he decided to hop the fence of the pool area to use the bathroom.

A few minutes later, a friend heard a loud noise and a scream. He tried to get the boy out of the icy water, but couldn’t, so ran home to get his father who called 911.

Firefighters performed CPR on him for 30 minutes before he was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital.
