BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) - Police in the Portland suburb of Beaverton say they’ve arrested a homeless man accused of abusing his dog by punching it and biting the dog’s ears.

KPTV reports (https://is.gd/6S6bN4 ) that police responded Sunday after a witness called to report seeing a man lift a dog off the ground by its leash and walk off, holding the dog in the air.

When police located a man fitting the witness’ description they say he acknowledged punching the animal named Hobo in the stomach and biting its ears to assert dominance.

Police say 24-year-old John Medina was arrested for investigation of second-degree animal neglect and second-degree animal abuse. The dog was taken to the Washington County Animal Shelter for its safety.
