ERIE, Pa. (AP) - A man will spend five to 11 years in state prison for killing a pedestrian while driving drunk with a suspended license, and with three children in his car.

Relatives told an Erie County judge that 66-year-old grandmother Laura Luce was crossing the street to get a drink of fruit juice at a social club to celebrate successful cancer treatments when she was struck by a car on May 11, Mother’s Day.

The Erie Times-News (https://bit.ly/1L0BbeS ) says Erie County Judge Daniel Brabender sentenced 33-year-old Pedro Colon, of Erie, on Tuesday.

The judge considered Colon’s clean driving record and cooperation with police. But he also noted that police found Colon was driving nearly double the 25-mph speed limit and was more than twice as drunk as the law allowed.
