FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - A New Jersey man will go to prison after authorities say he took a teenage girl across state lines for criminal sexual activity.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1BEgPoW ) reports 27-year-old Robert Joseph Butler pleaded guilty in August to charges of sexual assault in violation of Texas law and second-degree assault in violation of Arkansas law.

A judge sentenced Butler on Tuesday to 10 years in prison on each count and ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

Butler and a then-14-year-old girl were caught outside a Fort Smith store in April by law enforcement officials. An Amber alert had been issued for the teen.

Authorities say Butler drove to New Mexico, where he picked up the girl, and drove them to Texas and Oklahoma before arriving in Arkansas.
