OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - New state schools Superintendent Joy Hofmeister has fired three more of former Superintendent Janet Barresi’s staff, bringing to six the number of Oklahoma State Department of Education employees she has terminated since taking office Jan. 12.

Hofmeister spokesman Phil Bacharach told The Oklahoman (https://bit.ly/1BEFtpj ) on Tuesday that director of assessments Lisa Chandler and director of science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, Jeff Downs were fired.

Barresi’s executive assistant, Liz Young, was also terminated, according to Bacharach. Hofmeister on Friday fired Chief of Staff Joel Robison and assistant superintendents Richard Caram and Marsha Thompson.

It was not revealed if, or how, Hofmeister plans to fill the vacancies. She has declined comment on the personnel moves.

Hofmeister is a former state Board of Education member appointed by Gov. Mary Fallin. She resigned from the board to challenge Barresi in the Republican primary in June and defeated the incumbent and a third candidate; Barresi finished third in the voting.

Hofmeister then defeated Democrat John Cox in the November general election.
