DENVER (AP) - Investigators say the suspect in the fatal stabbing of two men at a public housing apartment complex in east Denver called 911 to report the slayings.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1Jaj83V ) 29-year-old Jamaal Edwards was formally charged Friday with two counts of first-degree murder in the Jan. 7 deaths of 53-year-old John Shoeboot and 42-year-old James Brown III.

According to court records unsealed Wednesday, police found Edwards after the 911 call, and he told investigators he saw an “unidentified man” stab Shoeboot and Brown. Detectives say that when pressed about inconsistencies in his story, Edwards acknowledged he was involved in the attack.

According to an arrest affidavit, Edwards said he fought Brown and Shoeboot during an argument, grabbing two knives before he “blacked out.”
