PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo says the Port of Davisville had another record-breaking year in 2014 for automobile imports.

Raimondo announced Wednesday that more than 178,000 automobiles were imported at the port in the Quonset Business Park last year, with another 34,000 arriving by rail and 3,000 by truck. She says it’s the fifth consecutive record-breaking year for automobile imports at the port.

The arriving vehicles are processed, finished and distributed across the country by North Atlantic Distribution, Inc., a long-time Quonset tenant.

Raimondo says the port has become one of North America’s leading auto importers because the state and federal government invested in modernizing its infrastructure and its workforce has grown to more than 300 people.

The port imported about 5,000 more automobiles in 2014, compared with 2013.
