CLEVELAND (AP) - Some residents of a west side Cleveland suburb are concerned about a plan to replace the local hospital with a health center and emergency room.

Lakewood Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic and Lakewood city officials say Lakewood Hospital will be shut down once the clinic opens a new hospital in Avon.

The Northeast Ohio Media Group reports Wednesday (https://bit.ly/1xxykRt ) the clinic plans to replace it with a 62,000-square-foot family health center and emergency room, which will free up about four acres of downtown property for development.

The news group reports that several residents speaking at a Tuesday night city council meeting blamed the Cleveland Clinic and the city for previous decisions the residents believe contributed to Lakewood Hospital’s current financial problems.
