NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Twenty people have been arrested in the New Haven area in raids targeting convicted sex offenders who have not complied with registration requirements.

Officers from several agencies had warrants for a total of 45 people in Hamden, New Haven and West Haven. New Haven police say several people who were not apprehended during the sweep on Wednesday have arranged to surrender.

The agencies involved in the raids included the U.S. Marshal Service, New Haven police and Connecticut State Police.

The warrants were mainly for failing to verify the current address of a convicted sex offender. Some suspects also were charged with probation violation and one was charged with sexual assault.
