LAS VEGAS (AP) - Health officials say they’ve confirmed the first case of measles in Clark County since 2011.
Southern Nevada Health District spokeswoman Jennifer Sizemore says the case was confirmed Wednesday but is not connected with the recent outbreak linked to Disneyland.
More than 70 people from six states and Mexico have fallen ill since mid-December in the Disney outbreak.
Sizemore released few details about the Clark County patient Thursday but said they contracted the illness locally.
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can spread by air through coughing or sneezing.
Symptoms include fever followed by cough, runny nose and a blotchy rash.
People at highest risk are those who are unvaccinated, pregnant women, infants under 6 months old, and those with weakened immune systems.
