NEW ORLEANS (AP) - After almost three years under what was supposed to be temporary leadership, locally controlled public schools in New Orleans finally are set to get a new, permanent superintendent.
The Orleans Parish School Board voted unanimously Tuesday to select East Feliciana Parish Schools Superintendent Henderson Lewis Jr. to run the schools in New Orleans that remain under the board’s jurisdiction.
The New Orleans Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1Jg23DY ) reports the vote ended a process that has dragged on since Daryl Klibert resigned in April 2012.
The board’s newly-elected president, Seth Bloom, said after the vote that Lewis’ experience in Louisiana’s school system was a key factor in the decision to choose him over Debbra Lindo, a consultant to a school system in California until her retirement last year.
