WATERTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Biologists are considering lethal force in their fight against thousands of crows roosting in Watertown.

The Watertown Daily Times reports (https://bit.ly/1E3iwgA ) that wildlife experts hired to haze the birds have notified city planner Michael Lumbis that they may use air rifles to kill some crows if other methods don’t scare them off.

The idea is that other birds will flee when they see their roost-mates drop dead.

Biologists will first use pyrotechnics, lasers, loud noises and other devices to try to drive off the roosting crows.

City Council members have expressed concerns about health and safety, with crow droppings on sidewalks, cars and buildings.

Large numbers of roosting crows are a perennial problem for some cities every winter.
