INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Health officials say Indiana recorded 12 flu-related deaths last week, raising to 97 the number of such deaths in the state this season.

The Indiana State Health Department’s latest flu report shows nine of the 12 deaths for the week ending Jan. 17 were among people age 65 and older. Of the state’s 97 total deaths this season, 83 have occurred in that age group.

The report issued Friday says two other deaths were among people ages 50-64 and one death occurred in the 25-49 age group.

The counties with the most flu deaths are all in northern Indiana, with Allen (Fort Wayne) and Lake (Gary) each recording 10 deaths and St. Joseph (South Bend) reporting nine.
