RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A PBS Civil War series will begin filming in the Richmond and Petersburg areas this spring.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Friday announced the filming locales for the six-episode series to premiere in the winter of 2016. One of the executive producers is Ridley Scott, who has a string of Hollywood blockbusters to his credit.

The PBS series is inspired by the memoirs and letters of doctors and nurse volunteers at Mansion House Hospital. It was a luxury hotel in Alexandria that was transformed into a Union Army hospital during the Civil War. The title of the series and its cast will be announced at a later date.

McAuliffe said the series will be eligible for incentive funding. In 2013, the film industry generated more than $19 million in tax revenues.
