PITTSBURGH (AP) - A western Pennsylvania man must stand trial on charges he killed his estranged wife by dousing her with vodka he set afire.

Police say 46-year-old James Karr knocked 56-year-old Maureen Karr unconscious, tied her up, poured vodka on her and lit it around 1 a.m. on Dec. 30 in Duquesne.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (https://bit.ly/1CZLxWT ) says Karr was ordered to trial after a preliminary hearing Friday.

Maureen Karr filed court documents Dec. 15 claiming her husband had threatened to burn down her home. Police testified Karr was drinking and smoking crack before he went to visit his wife, then argued and knocked her down after she grabbed an axe in anger.

Public defender Lisa Middleman says she may raise Karr’s drug use and argue that fire science is “a little bit of voodoo” in his defense.
