BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Two great white sharks tagged with tracking devices have returned to the South Carolina coast.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (https://bit.ly/1Cx7QFj) Mary Lee and Katherine have made their annual migration from the north to southern waters, where it’s believed they give birth to their baby whites.
Mary Lee was last spotted Thursday on OCEARCH’s tracker in the deep, miles off the Hilton Head Island coast. Katherine surfaced in similar waters on the same day. She has headed south, last tracked near the Georgia-Florida line on Friday.
The sharks are spotted when their dorsal fins break the surface and transmit a signal to a satellite.
