LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A jury has found a Las Cruces man guilty of beating another man to death in 2013.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports (https://bit.ly/15FThD1) jurors convicted 28-year-old Leonard Telles on Friday of a lesser charge of second-degree murder.

Telles was also convicted of kidnapping, tampering with evidence and attempted tampering with evidence.

Prosecutors say Telles struck 37-year-old Jerome Saiz with a baseball bat at least 10 times on Nov. 20, 2013 at the home of Saiz and his live-in girlfriend, Rebecca Gomez. Saiz later died at a hospital.

Telles testified that he acted in self-defense. Prosecutors say there is no evidence Saiz tried to defend himself.

Telles could face up to 42 years in prison.

Gomez is scheduled to go on trial for Saiz’s murder in April.
