COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - An assistant public defender in Columbia has been arrested on charges of obtaining goods under false pretense.

The State newspaper reported (https://bit.ly/1z18Qib) that 29-year-old Stephen Francis Krzyston is accused of falsely claiming to me a member of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s office to obtain free health club memberships.

The sheriff’s office said Krzyston made false claims in 2013 and last year to obtain free health club memberships valued at $300.

The county public defender’s office says Krzyston has been placed on administrative leave.

It was not clear if he has an attorney.
