PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Much of Maine’s transportation grid is shutting down in anticipation of a blizzard that could immobilize travel in many parts of the state.

Spokesmen for the Portland International Jetport say all departures have been canceled for Tuesday, when the worst of the storm is expected. Some Tuesday late evening arrivals are scheduled but officials say airlines are monitoring them and may cancel. All scheduled flights at Bangor International Airport are also canceled. All Monday evening flights from Bangor are also canceled except for Allegiant Air flights to the Tampa Bay area.

The Amtrak Downeaster train, which runs between Brunswick, Maine, and Boston, is also canceling all service for Tuesday.

The state Department of Transportation is asking residents to limit driving to essential travel only. Many cities also have parking bans.
