SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A patron at a Shreveport casino shot himself while trying to put his gun in the trunk of his car.

Shreveport Police officers were called to Sam’s Town Casino just after 7 a.m. Monday for a report of a shooting. They arrived to find 34-year-old Jerry Grimes with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right thigh.

KSLA-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1BsbL4u ) Grimes was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police say their investigation indicates the weapon accidentally discharged as he was removing it from his person and placing it in the trunk.

A news release says Grimes had no felony convictions that would have prevented him from possessing the gun and was not impaired.

No charges were filed but the incident remains under investigation.
