ERIE, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say two people were killed in a helicopter crash near the Erie airport in northern Colorado.

Weld County Coroner Mark Ward confirmed the deaths Monday afternoon, but he declined to release the victims’ names or ages.

The helicopter crashed just before noon Monday, and the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer says the Enstrom 280FX crashed during a training flight and the two victims were the only ones on board. He referred further questions to local authorities.

Kassandra Davis, who says she saw the crash from her deck, tells the Boulder Daily Camera she thought the helicopter was going to crash into her house. She says, “I looked back and I just saw it come down on the ground and explode.”
