BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - Gallatin County could become the third county in southwestern Montana where a state game warden can also cite people for drunken driving.

Sheriff Brian Gootkin tells the Bozeman Daily Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1C8dOxm) he expects county commissioners and the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks to finalize the agreement next month.

Gootkin says the idea to deputize game wardens came in a report recommending ways to improve DUI enforcement.

FWP Region 3 supervisor Sam Sheppard says wardens could issue citations during the course of their usual duties.

Gootkin says the wardens will need to be certified to give field sobriety and breath tests.

Sheppard says wardens can already issue DUI citations in Lewis and Clark and Madison counties. The agreement with Lewis and Clark County has been in place for about seven years.
