MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Missoula County officials have scheduled an inquest into the shooting death of a Missoula man by a police officer after a chase early on New Year’s Eve.

Deputy County Attorney Jason Marks says a coroner’s jury will convene on March 9 to decide if Officer Paul Kelly was justified in shooting and killing 20-year-old Kaileb Williams.

Deputies have said the shooting happened after a domestic violence report and after Williams led police on a chase through town. Officers said Williams was strangling his girlfriend in a car when he was shot.

Williams’ family has questioned the need for the use of deadly force.
