SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (AP) - Jury selection continues in the third murder trial of Calvin Harris, a prominent Tioga County businessman accused of killing his estranged wife in 2001.
Harris’ two previous convictions for killing his wife Michele were reversed by appeals courts. The woman’s body has never been located and authorities have not found a murder weapon, although they say blood spatters were found in the family’s home in Spencer, northwest of Binghamton.
Authorities allege that the 55-year-old Harris killed his wife on Sept. 11, 2001, while the couple’s four children slept upstairs.
Jury selection began last week in Schoharie County Court, where the case was moved because of extensive publicity surrounding the case in the Southern Tier. Three men and three women have been selected so far.
