LACOMBE, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police say high speed apparently contributed to the death of a 56-year-old Mandeville man whose 2014 Corvette ran off of Louisiana 1088 north of Lacombe.

Trooper Melissa Matey says Brian Chopin’s car went off a curve near Fish Hatchery Road and went airborne, then hit several trees Saturday afternoon.

She says in a news release that Chopin was dead at the scene and his 53-year-old wife, Lori Chopin, was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.

Matey says toxicology results are pending an autopsy and the crash remains under investigation.
