MANKATO, Minn. (AP) - Mild January weather has forced the cancellation of an annual ice fishing contest that raises money for Minnesota State, Mankato athletic scholarships.

The Humminbird Big Bobber Ice Fishing Contest was scheduled for Saturday on Lake Washington. But recent mild weather, and the forecast for continued warm weather, prompted officials to cancel the event.

The contest has raised more than $250,000. The event also was canceled in 2012.

The Free Press of Mankato (https://bit.ly/1zlKbIr ) reports that while the fishing contest has been canceled, a shore-based event will still be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Westwood Bar & Grill on Lake Washington.
