SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A California Highway Patrol officer has been injured in a patrol car fire on an off-ramp of the Bay Bridge in Treasure Island.

CHP spokesman Vu Williams says the officer was hurt Monday night when he tried to help a fellow officer whose patrol car had caught fire.

Williams tells KGO-TV (https://abc7ne.ws/1LdxDpJ) the officer was injured by flying debris from the car that was fully engulfed in flames.

The officer was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

San Francisco firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
