HOUSTON (AP) - Police say 18 people have been charged in a Houston-area crime ring linked to stolen vehicles and armed bank robberies.

Houston police announced the arrests Tuesday and the search for additional robbery suspects.

Several law enforcement agencies last March began the investigation after a series of bank robberies.

The 16 men and two female defendants have been charged with bank robbery or bank “jugging” during incidents since last April. Jugging is when bank customers complete their transactions and are then followed and robbed.

Authorities believe the ring operated from northeast Houston.
