NAGS HEAD, N.C. (AP) - Assault charges against Nags Head Police Chief Kevin Brinkley and his wife have been dismissed.

Media outlets report that Brinkley and his wife Rochelle were each charged with simple assault after a domestic dispute in their home in November.

Brinkley had been placed on paid leave but returned to work two weeks later.

The charges were dismissed in Currituck County District Court on Monday.

Brinkley issued a brief statement saying he is thankful to have the case behind him and thankful for the support of the town and its residents.
