ERIE, Colo. (AP) - Two people who were killed in a helicopter crash near the Erie airport in northern Colorado have been identified as an instructor and a student pilot.

Erie-based Mountain One Helicopters identified the victims as instructor Alex Viola and student pilot Amy Wood, who was working on her private license.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer says the Enstrom 280FX crashed just before noon Monday during a training flight and the two victims were the only ones on board. He referred further questions to local authorities.

According to Mountain One’s website, Viola specialized in initial flight training and ground instruction and loved “to share his passion and dedication for flying with his enthusiastic students.”

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety board are investigating the crash.
