FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - The New York Jets have hired Brian Heimerdinger as the team’s director of player personnel under new general manager Mike Maccagnan.

Heimerdinger spent three seasons as a scout with St. Louis, working as a player personnel analyst while evaluating both pro and college players. He’s the son of the late Mike Heimerdinger, a long-time NFL offensive coordinator.

The younger Heimerdinger has also worked in the front offices of Houston, while Maccagnan was there, and Tennessee. He was a wide receiver at Colorado State and Northern Colorado.

New coach Todd Bowles also hired three assistants Tuesday: quarterbacks coach Kevin Patullo, offensive line coach Steve Marshall and running backs coach Marcel Shipp, who ran for 2,197 yards and 11 TDs in seven seasons with Arizona.
