MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) - Officials in Marquette are moving to ban smoking at Presque Isle Park as part of an effort to make the park more welcoming to visitors.

WLUC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1DcTHeB ) the City Commission on Monday directed staff to begin drafting a new ordinance that would ban smoking at the park. Details and enforcement plans still must be worked out. The issue was raised by the Presque Isle Advisory Committee.

Bob Chapman, chairman of the advisory committee, says: “We think it’s important to try and keep the quality of that experience as high as possible and we think that smoking does not necessarily add to the quality of that experience for most people.”
