ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York authorities say an oral surgeon from western New York has admitted fraudulently billing the state more than $14,000 for dental work he never performed on state prison inmates.

Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott says 45-year-old Timothy J. O’Keefe has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for filing false documents and is expected to pay restitution and face six months in jail at sentencing on Feb. 12.

According to Scott, an investigation found O’Keefe filed billing vouchers from 2009 to 2011 claiming to have completed more costly procedures than he performed.

His contract to provide oral surgeries at 26 state facilities was terminated a year ago.
