OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) - Police in the Portland suburb of Oregon City say a man in one vehicle apparently chased and shot his wife as she drove in another vehicle, then shot himself.

Sgt. Matthew Paschall said Monday evening that both the 54-year-old woman and the 55-year-old man were reported in critical but stable condition in two different Portland hospitals. Both live in Oregon City.

Police say the woman called for help Monday afternoon, reporting that her husband was shooting at her. She was able to escape and was taken to a hospital.

The man was located by police not far from the initial call location. He had what police described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The couple were not identified.

Police say the man was driving a turquoise pickup truck and the woman was driving a white SUV. Investigators think the two vehicles were involved in a chase through several Oregon City streets.

Two schools were temporarily locked down after the initial 911 call.
