BALTIMORE (AP) - A man shot by a Baltimore police officer last week has been charged with assault and attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer.

Police say 40-year-old Terry Lewis was shot after attempting to grab a female officer’s gun and turn it on her.

Police say officers tried to stop Lewis and two other suspects for driving without headlights on Thursday night but they sped off before crashing the car and fleeing on foot.

Police say Officer Angel Richardson chased Lewis and they engaged in a struggle, with Lewis attempting to “twist the weapon” out of the officer’s hand at which point she fired, striking Lewis in the abdomen.

Two days later another officer fatally shot a knife-wielding man at a birthday party who has been identified as 26-year-old Darin Hutchins.
