ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Regulators have fined a subcontractor following the death of a worker who fell from a roof last year at a chicken farm west of the Twin Cities.

Minnesota’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined Pro-X Builders $25,000 in the death of Ruben Esquivel. The 23-year-old Okabena man was installing tin on the roof of a barn at Sparboe Farms in Darwin Township and fell nearly 30 feet to the concrete floor last June.

Sparboe is one of the nation’s leading egg producers. Regulators say the employee should have been protected by guardrails, a safety net or a restraint. The Star Tribune (https://strib.mn/1H6aIwW ) says Pro-X Builders has not contested the penalty.
