ACKERMAN, Miss. (AP) - A portion of Mississippi Highway 15 in Choctaw County will be dedicated to the late French Camp police chief Anthony Dwight Lucas, who was killed in the line of duty in 2005.

The ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 4 at the Ackerman Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Lucas lived in Ackerman and was the part-time police chief in French Camp. He had joined other Choctaw County law officers in the pursuit of a car that fled during a traffic stop.

The fleeing car stopped at a house in Weir, the four people inside the car jumped out with three running inside the house and one running down the road. As Lucas walked toward the house, a 16-year-old male came out and shot him with a shotgun.
