OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) - Court records show an Oregon City woman who police say was shot by her husband on Monday obtained a restraining order against him last month.

Police say Timothy Moffatt shot his wife, Jan Moffatt, twice after a vehicle chase through Oregon City neighborhoods. He then shot himself.

Both remained in critical condition Tuesday at separate Portland hospitals.

The Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/J6bJI1 ) Jan Moffatt obtained the restraining order Dec. 23, five days after she was allegedly injured by her husband.

Moffatt wrote that the abuse has been happening on and off during their 35-year marriage. She said her husband has a gun and rifles, and has often threatened to kill himself after killing her.

Timothy Moffatt was charged of a fourth-degree assault and harassment after the Dec. 18 incident. He was arraigned Christmas Eve.
